It's official: Rex Ryan is the New York Jets' new head coach. As a Jets' fan, I like the move. He seems like the anti-Mangini, which is cool with me. He's fiery, has a swagger, his players swear by him and he's a "mad scientist" when it comes to defensive schemes. My only question has to do with the offense (and I'm not even going down the Favre road ... at least not yet). If Brian Schottenheimer leaves his post as offensive coordinator, word has it Ryan will replace him with Ravens' QB coach Hue Jackson. Now I don't know much about Jackson. I know he did wonders with Joe Flacco. But the Ravens have never been known as an offensive juggernaut. We'll see ...(Glauber: Will Ryan have enough firepower with Jets?)
The Giants didn't have to look far to replace Steve Spagnuolo as defensive coordinator, promoting linebackers coach Bill Sheridan.
The Knicks beat the Bulls, 102-98 in their MLK day matinee. Meanwhile, Chris Duhon turned down Obama for ... practice?
Brendan Shanahan scores in his debut, as the Devils topped the Predators, 3-1.
Big surprise, the Islanders dropped another one, this time to the Caps, 2-1. That's now eight straight losses for the Isles.
